Wikipedia Editing: Wading into the Realm of Free Labor and Digital Labor

Can “anyone” really edit Wikipedia? Can you? YES, and we can show you how! In this interactive, hands-on session with NWACC librarians, explore Wikipedia’s “verifiability” standards and the process of Wikipedia article editing. The emphasis will be on adding citations to existing articles. We’ll explore what makes a source reliable and address academic concerns about credibility and authority. Wikipedia’s massive free labor and digital labor force is a meritocracy with editors who prove credible rising in authority (influence and control). Come let us introduce you to the wisdom of the crowd. You’ll have the chance to edit an article.

Note: Create your Wikipedia user account in advance. Stop by the Library for help. Space is limited to 24 participants.

This workshop is presented as part of NWACC's Spring Arts Festival.
