Fact Check Like a Pro: Advanced Lateral Reading in Action Online
How do journalists verify if a viral post is true — fast? In this 30-minute workshop, you’ll learn how to fact-check like a pro using advanced lateral reading skills from the News Literacy Project. You’ll see how to open new tabs, compare multiple sources, and use smart search tricks to find the truth.
We’ll explore five pro-level moves:
- Check the comments for early clues
- Limit results by date
- Use quotation marks and “click restraint”
- Switch to the News tab for credible coverage
- Use Wikipedia to verify sources
Then you’ll test your skills in a live fact-check challenge!
