A character on trial -OR- the psychology of a character. Will need theories of psychology and possibly case law, as well as literary criticism for

  • "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell
  • "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner
  • "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe
  • "Killings" by Andre Dubus

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. locate literary criticism for the assigned readings
  2. conduct background research on psychology theories, post-traumatic stress disorder, and justifiable homicide
  3. use advanced search strategies such as Boolean operators, exact phrases, faceting, subject headings, etc.
  4. critically examine sources for credibility, authority, and relevance to the topic
  5. generate an MLA style citation using library database tools
